The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith Review

Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?
Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan's life. Having missed her flight, she's stuck at JFK airport and late to her father's second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon-to-be stepmother Hadley's never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport's cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he's British, and he's sitting in her row.

A long night on the plane passes in the blink of an eye, and Hadley and Oliver lose track of each other in the airport chaos upon arrival. Can fate intervene to bring them together once more?

Quirks of timing play out in this romantic and cinematic novel about family connections, second chances, and first loves. Set over a twenty-four-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver's story will make you believe that true love finds you when you're least expecting it.

My Thoughts:
2.5/5 Stars

This was a cute book about love at first sight.

It's a about a girl flying overseas for a wedding and a boy flying overseas to deal with family obligations. When they bump into one another in the airport and end up sitting next to each other, conversation flows. They learn about each other and a connection is formed. They go their separate ways, but somehow end up together.

I had high expectations for this book because my husband and I met on a plane. With that being said this book was just okay for me. I understand it is about love at first sight, but some of what happened was just not believable.

I did like the characters though. Hadley was sweet and confident and Oliver... Oh Oliver was smart, handsome, and witty! He had a way with words. He knew exactly what to say at the right time. Sometimes what he said made no sense and sometimes it was too smart for his own good.

The storyline was sweet. Hadley reunites with her father and love proves to be strong enough to push you to chase after people.

Overall I would recommend this book to any reader looking for a quick, romantic read.

Clipped Wings by Helena Hunting Review

Their body art is hot. Their chemistry is even hotter.
From her dark hair sweeping below her waist to her soft, sexy curves, Tenley Page intrigues tattoo artist Hayden Stryker in a way no one else ever has…especially when she asks him to ink a gorgeous, intricate design on her back. Yet for all her beauty, there is something darkly tragic and damaged about Tenley that Hayden is everything.

Covered in ink and steel, Hayden is everything Tenley has never dared to want, awakening a desire to explore more than the art adorning his stunning body. Trapped by a past that leaves her screaming from nightmares, Tenley sees Hayden as the perfect escape. Although he has secrets too, if they both keep themselves guarded perhaps their intense physical connection will remain only that.

But nothing, not even passion, can keep them safe from their pasts…

A beautiful story about opening your heart to love again.
Tenley Page has been through a tragic event that leaves her emerged in grief. Her body is marked with the proof and her mind is constantly reminded of the nightmare she lived. When Hayden Stryker takes an interest in her, she shies away and keeps him at arms length. Secrets are slowly revealed and when she asks him to tattoo her back an intimate bond forms between them. Guards are pushed down and true feelings are exposed.

Tenley was a great heroine in the story. She is beautiful, caring, and brave. Hayden is a sexy, tatted bad boy with a heart of gold. I just loved him. Together Tenley and Hayden are whirlwind of on again, off again emotions. They tugged on my heartstrings and made my pulse race.

While the storyline is the bad boy, damaged girl cliché... The Author took it to a whole new level. The plot consumed me and I felt as though I was walking in the characters shoes. When reliving the tragedy Tenley faced my stomach clenched and tears rolled down my cheek. It all felt so real & I loved that! The Author took tattoos and proved that they are pieces of artwork. With Tenley it was a way to hide the ugly with beautiful wings. A symbol of new beginnings.

Now the ending .... Left me like WTF? This can't be it.... I flipped a couple more pages and realized I needed book 2 ASAP. I couldn't believe that it ended that abruptly, but I love a good cliffhanger that sucks you in for more.

The writing was great! It was a page turner that left you begging for the next book.
Highly Recommend <3

What a beautiful heartbreaking story....

From the first page I was instantly sucked into an emotional rollercoaster ride.

The book is about a young woman who went through a tragic life event and is still holding it all in. She moves with her sister, escaping their previous life, but the nightmares continue to occur daily. When she meets her new neighbor, Trent, a relationship brews and Kacey puts her walls up, keeping him at arms length. She eventually lets him in and together they embark on a beautiful journey. What happens when Trent reveals his secrets and the truth is exposed?

I will forever favor this book. The writing was fantastic and the storyline was intense and real. While there was a love story, I was consumed in the family and friendships within this book. The Author did a great job making you feel like you were living in the characters shoes. It was a fast paced book packed with romance, mystery, emotions, and suspense.

I highly recommend this book.

Love in English by Karina Halle Review

He’s thirty-eight. I’m twenty-three. He speaks Spanish. I speak English. He lives in Spain. I live in Canada. He dresses in thousand-dollar suits. I’m covered in tattoos. He’s married and has a five-year old daughter. I’m single and can’t commit to anyone or anything. Until now.Because when they say you can’t choose who you fall in love with, boy ain’t that the f*#king truth. *** To a restless dreamer like Vera Miles, it sounded like the experience of a lifetime. Instead of spending her summer interning for her astronomy major, she would fly to Spain where she’d spend a few weeks teaching conversational English to businessmen and women, all while enjoying free room and board at an isolated resort. But while Vera expected to get a tan, meet new people and stuff herself with wine and paella, she never expected to fall in love. Mateo Casalles is unlike anyone Vera has ever known, let alone anyone she’s usually attracted to. While Vera is a pierced and tatted free spirit with a love for music and freedom, Mateo is a successful businessman from Madrid, all sharp suits and cocky Latino charm. Yet, as the weeks go on, the two grow increasingly close and their relationship changes from purely platonic to something…more. Something that makes Vera feel alive for the first time. Something that can never, ever be. Or so she thinks

I wanted to love this book. I really did, but unfortunately for me it was a DNF.

The story was a about a young woman going to Spain to teach English. There she meets older, married man Mateo and they begin to fall for one another.

-> Keyword being married. I don't usually mind cheating in books, but this one rubbed me the wrong way. I prefer the married person to push the other away showing some sort of devotion to their spouse. Not Mateo... He pursued Vera and pushed his wife away. This was a very unattractive characteristic. When the book boyfriend loses his appeal I check out.

Vera however, intrigued me. She was real and I liked that a lot. I enjoyed reading about her emotions and how she realized that Mateo was off limits. Eventually though she gave in.

About halfway through I had to close the book. At that point I expected some sort of excuse to why Mateo was so uninterested in his wife. Was she mean? Had she cheated? Something to make me feel okay with him being with Vera.

The writing was good, but the storyline really fell short for me.

Monster in His Eyes by J.M. Darhower

Ignazio Vitale is not a good man.

I suspect it, the first time I see him, sense the air of danger that surrounds the man. He has a way of commanding attention, of taking control, of knowing what I'm thinking before I even do.

It's alarming and alluring. It's dark and deadly. It's everything I've ever wanted but the last thing I truly need. Obsession.

It doesn't take him long to draw me into his web, charming me into his bed and trapping me in his life, a life I know nothing about until it's too late. He has secrets, secrets I can't fathom, secrets that make it so I can't walk away. I see it sometimes in his eyes, a darkness that's both terrifying and thrilling. He's a monster, wrapped up in a pretty package, and what I find when I unmask him changes everything.

I want to hate him.

Sometimes, I do.

But it doesn't stop me from loving him, too.

Raw by Belle Aurora

***Author Note: This is not a love story. This is a story of love gone wrong.*** Growing up the way I did, you’d think I’d be more screwed up than what I actually am. Soon as I turned sixteen, I left that bump in the road I called home and took my chances on the street. Best decision I ever made. Now, at the age of twenty six, I’m educated, employed and damn good at my job. My friends have become my family. Like me, they know what it’s like to grow up unloved. But the saying is true. The world makes way for those who know where they are going. That’s me. I know where I’m going and I’ll get there eventually. On my own terms and at my own pace. But then there’s him. I feel his eyes on me. I see him hiding in plain sight. He watches me. He makes me feel. It’s unconventional. But it’s real. I’m sure you’re wondering how a person falls in love with their stalker. So am I. This isn’t a story. This is my life. ***This book includes situations that some may find uncomfortable.

Poughkeepsie by Debra Anastasia

He counts her smiles every day and night at the train station. And morning and evening, the beautiful commuter acknowledges him-just like she does everyone else on the platform. But Blake Hartt is not like the others . . . he's homeless. Memories of a broken childhood have robbed him of peace and twisted delusions into his soul. He stays secluded from the sun, sure the world would run from him in the harsh light of day. Each day, Livia McHugh smiles politely and acknowledges her fellow commuters as she waits for the train to the city. She dismisses this kindness as nothing special, just like her. She's the same as a million other girls-certainly no one to be cherished. But special or not, she smiles every day, never imagining that someone would rely on the simple gesture as if it were air to breathe. When the moment comes that Livia must do more than smile, without hesitation she steps into the fray to defend the homeless man. And she's surprised to discover an inexplicable connection with her new friend. After danger subsides, their smiles become conversation. Their words usher in a friendship, which awakens something in each of them. But it's not long before their bond must prove its strength. Entanglements from the past challenge both their love and their lives. Blake's heart beats for Livia's, even if her hands have to keep its rhythm. Love is patient. Love is kind. Love never fails. Love never fails, right? In an interwoven tale of unlikely loves and relationships forged by fire, Debra Anastasia takes readers into the darkest corners of human existence, only to show them the radiant power of pure adoration and true sacrifice. Complicated families and confused souls find their way to light in this novel, which manages to be racy, profane, funny, and reverent all at once.

Excerpt Event (Author Veronica Peel)

Today we have an Excerpt from Think Sex by Veronica Peel.
Release Date July 1st
Excerpt from Volume 1 “Enters Paolo”

I knew this was going to be a problem. Ever since the first time I had sex, I cannot kiss

anyone without thinking about it. If the guy is a good kisser, one kiss pushes all the good

buttons. Then it’s a question of when. Usually my thoughts are (if there is one at all)

“The sooner the better”, or “I have to live in the now”. There’s also a justification like

“Life is too short” - Living in New York City I could get hit by a crazy bike messenger

riding on the sidewalk, or something like that. However I don’t want to be too trampy (a

little trampy it’s okay for fun in my book) and I make myself wait for a few dates to

make sure that’s what I really want. It’s like being in line at the supermarket. There is all

that good candy you have been trying to avoid by the register. They know we are all

impulsive, and that’s why the candy is there. Bright colors, definitely loaded with sugar,

pocket size and as our well trained brains think: instant satisfaction. We won’t be happy

later (Salad and yogurt the next day,) but that’s not what we are thinking when we grab

the candy bar (And when I say candy bar, I mean the guy’s ass.)

Sex is not always that, though. First of all it ends up costing you much more than you

think: Shoes, dresses, nails, meals – don’t shoot me but I cook for my man sometimes -

and if you hate yourself later it can’t be fixed by eating salad and yogurt the next day.

That’s why I would normally prefer to wait. But tonight it’s the new normal. I am trying

to shake off a bad break up. Maybe this hot guy can help me move on. It’s different. It’s

not me following him because I am insecure. He is not pressuring me. It’s all me taking

the lead, taking him home. On my own terms.

I know everyone is going to be mad at me for leaving early but Estelle will explain. Guy

is talking to Eric and probably waiting for the waitress. On our way out I mouth “Thank

you” to Estelle and she replies “Enjoy, Carina.” We both can’t believe I am doing this.

Copyrighted Material

She is almost more excited than me. This is the best fake birthday present she has ever

given me. She knows to call me later to make sure I am still alive. I’d do the same for

her. When you are alone in the city your friends are your family. We take care of each

other.

We walk out of the club like we are a couple. I am filled with energy and excitement like

a high schooler cutting class and try to hide the fact that my palms are sweaty. I dry them

up against my dress. The doorman sees us, and he doesn’t smile. He is looking at me like

he can’t believe I am leaving with another man. Whatever. You’re married, dude! I try to

take a look at his hand to see if I can spot a wedding band so that I don’t feel too guilty

(He is super cute after all) but we are walking out and I don’t want to be obvious. I’ll deal

with it later.

We get into a cab and I tell the driver where to go. Next, I lounge onto my Portuguese

man. Sorry. Just couldn’t wait to get to my apt. Not very proper but he is the best kisser

and I want more. If I am doing this like in the movies, I will do it all the way. No looking

back. He pulls my hair a little when he kisses me. Oh dear Lord. My eyes are closed but I

can feel the cab driver looking at us through the rear view mirror. Not sure if I like that

so I stop and sit back on my spot. Ouch! I sit on the belt buckle from the seat belt. He

hugs me and pulls me closer to him. I am not comfortable at all (But I don’t want to

move.) He can’t help himself either. I love it. He slides his hand down from my face to

my chest to my waist and I tuck my stomach in so that it feels toned. I wish for abs of

steel. Glad I had a light dinner. I take his hand back to my chest and we are putting the

entire back seat to good use. All of it. I feel the cab stopping. We have arrived. He pays

the driver and opens the door for me from the inside and pushes it outwards. I am closest

to the curb so I get out first and hold his hand as he comes out. I feel like if I let go, all

my confidence will shatter and I will end up feeling awkward and apologizing for not

being able to go through with this. We are still connected so all is well. I look into his

eyes and immediately look away. I know I look confident as if I did this often, but the

reality of it is that it’s all an act. Show no fear, I tell myself.

I am doing this. I know I can.

Excerpt Event (Author Chantal Fernando)

Today we have an Excerpt from
Dragon's Lair by Chantal Fernando.

When I found my boyfriend cheating on me, I did something stupid. Or should I say, someone? Because of that mistake, I’m now stuck in a world I don’t belong in. I’m a law student. They’re criminals. He’s the Vice President of a MC. I’m a good girl with a strict upbringing. He’s my ex-boyfriend’s brother. And I’m screwed.

EXCERPT:
I stare at the old motel building in apprehension, taking in its brown brick exterior and dirty windows. Not the Hilton, that’s for sure. Feeling sorry for myself is a foreign concept for me. I normally consider myself a strong woman. I need to be one, with the parents I was given and the career I have in mind for the future. I have a strong will and I’m not afraid to open my mouth and say what’s on my mind. I don’t mince words or back down. I find humor in awkward situations and try to make the most of my life. I guess there is a first time for everything, because here I am, tail tucked between my legs, feeling more than sorry for myself. I’d think sixty dollars would have gotten me a better motel than this, but I was wrong. It has been known to happen. I check in at the reception, paying for a one night stay and trying not to stare at the mold on the wall. The bored looking girl at the counter hands me my key. Then I drag my feet to my room, taking one bag with me. Inside are my toiletries, clothes, and a few valuables-- including my purse, passport, and food. Unlocking the door, I walk in and check out the room. A small bathroom, a couch, bed, fridge, and a TV. Eh, it could be worse. I don’t know how—but I know it could. I put my bag on the couch and take off my sandals. Placing them neatly in the corner, I pull out one of the plastic containers and open the lid. I munch on the cut fruit as I contemplate my life. I have five thousand dollars saved, a growing belly, and no clue what the hell I’m going to do. One thing I do know for sure is that I need to keep moving. Two nights here, and then I’m going to keep on driving. I want to get as far away from my old life as possible, that shit does not need to catch up with me. I take a long shower, then take my time rubbing moisturizer into my skin. I have cherry blossom lotion that I use every night without fail, and tonight is no exception. I brush my teeth, comb my wavy auburn hair, and climb into bed. Wishing I had brought my own sheets, I ignore the musty smell and fall asleep. This is my life now. ***** One night passes and then I’m back on the road, heading farther north. Soon exhausted, I check into another dodgy motel and all but collapse onto the bed. I spend the next day looking for a job—applying anywhere and everywhere. I’m not fussy, I will do just about anything right now. Well not anything, but I’m not opposed to working in a grocery store or cleaning houses. Anything that makes some money is good enough for me. A quiet knock at the door makes me groan. I force myself to get up, expecting housekeeping. I open the door slightly, just enough to see who it is through the chain lock. My jaw drops open and panic sets in. Definitely not housekeeping. “Open it, or I will,” he demands, his eyes blazing. I consider my options for a few seconds before I slide open the lock. He could just break down the door if he wanted to. I open it and take a few steps back as he enters. Crystal blue eyes narrow on me. A muscle ticks in his jaw as his gaze rakes over me, as if checking to make sure that I’m okay. He’s wearing worn, ripped jeans and a long sleeve black t-shirt that accentuates his muscular build. “Just in my part of the neighborhood?” I ask, hope filling my voice. “What the fuck, Faye?” he rasps, gripping the door frame. I take another step back. I don’t know what he is capable of right now. The old Dex would rather cut off his arm than hurt me, but do I really know him now? And I don’t know how the hell he found me. Does he know? Of course he does. Nothing gets by Dexter Black. He bangs the door behind him, the noise making me flinch. “Pack up your shit,” he demands, eyes searching the crappy motel room, which is now looking considerably smaller with his hulking presence. He doesn’t look happy with what he sees. In fact, his scowl deepens. He crosses his arms over his broad chest and stares me down, waiting for me to move. “I’m not going anywhere,” I say, putting my hands on my hips and glaring at him. He’s not the boss of me. Yes, he’s a badass, sexy man who I had one night of hot, passionate sex with, but that doesn’t mean he gets to tell me what to do. I might have liked him bossy in bed, but this right here is a different story. He takes a deep breath, as if calming himself. “I’ve been looking for you for two days. I’m trying not to lose my fuckin’ temper here, Faye, but you’re pushing me. I don’t think I’ve ever been this patient in my fuckin’ life.” This is him patient? “I’m not going anywhere,” I reply, lifting my chin up. We stare at each other, the tension building. I can actually feel the moment before he snaps. His fists clench, and the tightness in his jaw looks almost painful. I step back, into the frame of the open bathroom door as he loses it. He picks up the TV and throws it into the wall. The crashing sound makes me jump, but he doesn’t stop there. He punches the wall several times, then slides the few glasses off the table in one smooth movement. More crashing. He turns and points his finger right at me. I gulp. My eyes widen as he grabs my bag and starts packing anything of mine he comes across. I walk up to him and try to grab it away from him, but one deathly look has me retracting my hand. “Temper tantrum over?” I ask, trying to keep my voice steady. He looks down at my bare feet, then at all the glass scattered on the carpet floor. “Don’t move.” I do as I’m told as he brings me a pair of my shoes. I slide them on then look up at him. Why does he want me to go with him? What good can come from it? What I need to do is move on with my life, and settle down somewhere quiet and safe. Somewhere without sex-on-a-stick bikers and their douche lord cheating brothers. Somewhere where my parents aren’t around, and I can be myself. “I just want to be left alone, Dex,” I say, tears forming in my eyes. I’m tired, so fucking tired. My life isn’t meant to be like this, and I hate the fact that he’s seeing me this vulnerable. I hate it. I’m not this weak—not usually.
